Mescher appointed to INTA Designs Committee

Porter Wright intellectual property attorney Rick Mescher has been appointed to serve as a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) Designs Committee. He will begin his service starting Jan. 1, 2022, and serve for a term of two years.

“We are so proud of Rick’s appointment to this important aspect of INTA’s global service,” shared Holly Kozlowski, partner-in-charge of Porter Wright’s Cincinnati office and chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group. “Rick’s wide-ranging patent and trademark knowledge and experience, design engineer background and legal talent will be a valuable asset to the Designs Committee.”

INTA’s Designs Committee develops and advocates its policy related to design rights and monitors design cases, legislation and regulations. The committee monitors design at the international, regional and national levels around the world. Mescher will integrate his vast experience with domestic, international and foreign patent applications to best serve the committee’s advocacy, resource and communication goals.

Although the U.S. treats protecting product designs similar to patents, most other countries treat protecting product designs more like trademarks. Because the international community considers trademarks and designs to be so closely related, it is imperative for INTA to maintain an active and engaged Designs Committee.
