Employment Relations Seminar

OCT 31, 2023 at 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM (EDT)
Hilton Columbus at Easton Town Center

3900 Chagrin Drive, Columbus, OH 43219

Don't get stuck in the cobwebs of an HR nightmare. Grab your broomstick and join the Porter Wright team on Tuesday, Oct. 31 for our fall employment relations seminar. Let's dig out a few sometimes-scary legal employment issues and put them to rest once and for all.

Topics Include:

Effective Strategies for Improving Workplace Safety and Decreasing Workers' Compensation Claims: The starting point for a good workers' compensation program is a strong safety program. This presentation will cover the importance of training supervisors and employees, how to be proactive in documenting claims, enforcing policies, and how to use social media and surveillance to your advantage.

The More Things Change, the More They Stay the Same: Employment Law in Ohio after Adult-Use Cannabis Legalization: Ohioans will vote on legalizing marijuana for adult use on Nov. 7. While medical marijuana is already legal in Ohio, the new measure may mean big changes for Ohioans. This presentation will focus on the status of labor laws in Ohio related to cannabis use, specifically current law regarding drug testing and health benefits. We will review current Ohio law and laws of several states that have fully legalized cannabis to determine how the law in Ohio may change if legalization passes.

NLRB Activism: What it Means for All Employers: Recent NLRB decisions and interpretive guidance from the Board’s general counsel will impact all employers – whether or not the workforce is unionized. This presentation will provide an analysis of decisions regarding non-compete agreements, non-disparagement and confidentiality language; the new standard for unfair labor practice charges during an election; and the new stance on union recognition and limits on employee voting.
