Overview
Clients turn to Scott to help them successfully realize their biggest opportunities and navigate their toughest challenges. He represents clients in industries ranging from manufacturing and energy to insurance and health care, often working on their behalf with federal, state and local officials in the judicial, executive and legislative branches of government. He chairs the firm’s federal and state Government and Regulatory Affairs Practice Group and is a member of firm leadership.

- Assisting various manufacturing companies and other businesses in bringing billions of dollars of investment and thousands of jobs to Ohio. His work to bring a multinational agribusiness investment to Ohio earned the 2024 “Project of the Year” award from the Ohio Economic Development Association.
- Recovering millions of dollars in insurance coverage owed to clients.
- Representing a leading integrated, downstream energy company in litigation involving a significant environmental crisis.
- Leading an investigation into a major corruption scandal at a popular non-profit tourist destination resulting in a complete reform of the organization’s board of trustees, staffing and bylaws.
- Assisting a regional health care organization’s expansion to create an urban health care corridor with associated infrastructure improvements leading to millions of dollars of new investment and thousands of new jobs.
- Serving as outside general counsel to multiple companies, including a manufacturing company during a period of rapid growth and expansion in employment and facilities.
- Successfully defending clients in government investigation and enforcement matters.
- Guiding government affairs strategies for multiple companies and trade associations.
As a litigator, he has successfully tried and resolved cases in all types of venues, including appeals at the federal and state levels. While a major focus of his practice is commercial litigation, Scott’s experience extends to insurance coverage disputes, environmental matters, government procurement, land use and regulatory disputes. He has worked to improve the efficiency of the legal system by serving several years on the Ohio Supreme Court Task Force on Commercial Dockets under appointment by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Ohio.
He is a recognized leader in economic development, having helped numerous companies locate their facilities in the state of Ohio, acting on their behalf to secure economic development incentives, resolve environmental permitting issues, obtain infrastructure funding and solve zoning concerns. Scott serves as the Columbus City Council’s appointee to Columbus Next Generation Corporation, the city’s nonprofit economic development entity, where he contributes his experience to the city’s most significant economic development challenges.
His government affairs clients benefit from the broad perspectives he has gained from representing clients’ interests before legislative and regulatory entities and serving as a governor’s appointee inside state government. He led the Governor’s Advantage Ohio regulatory reform initiative to improve the state’s business climate and create thousands of new jobs. His practice encompasses legislative, regulatory and public bid matters.
