Melissa is an associate in the firm's Corporate Department whose practice focuses on intellectual property and trademark issues. She has counseled large corporations in handling the rollout of the new generic top level domains and has filed trademarks in the Trademark Clearinghouse to expand the protection of corporations’ trademark portfolios throughout the launch of the new gTLD program. Melissa has created client specific protection plans regarding the new gTLDs, allowing clients to protect their brand more thoroughly. In addition, Melissa has counseled clients about protecting their trademark portfolio and not infringing upon other individuals’ and businesses’ intellectual property rights when launching new, interactive content-sharing websites. In this capacity, she also has drafted Terms and Conditions Agreements applicable to various parties involved with content-sharing websites. Furthermore, Melissa has counseled clients in the selection and clearance of trademarks, and the prosecution of applications of registration before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Before becoming an attorney, Melissa was an intellectual property intern who researched intellectual property matters including but not limited to trademarks, copyrights and design patents; and drafted intellectual property guidelines dealing primarily with third-party fair-use recommendations and guidelines for a Fortune 500 company.
