Overview

Hikaru, a Japanese attorney admitted only in the state of California, the District of Columbia and Japan, concentrates his practice on advising Japanese-owned businesses on M&As, general business matters and complex legal disputes. He represents his clients’ interests and provides practical counsel to Japanese management and entities under the supervision of an attorney licensed in Ohio.

Hikaru’s primary focus is in M&A transactions where Japanese owned businesses are acquiring U.S. companies. He navigates Japanese clients through the entire process of M&As.

Hikaru’ s experience includes representing companies in connection with M&As. He assists clients in conducting due diligence in the context of an  international merger or acquisition. In addition, Hikaru assists Japanese clients in internal compliance and forensic investigations.

Hikaru also assists clients in the resolution of various commercial disputes. His experience includes a AAA arbitration on behalf of an international consumer electronics company in a multi-million dollar contract dispute with a supplier, which was favorably resolved. Hikaru has also supported several clients in patent infringement litigation and international arbitrations.

In addition, Hikaru regularly provides advice to Japanese-owned businesses with respect to general matters such as formation of their U.S. subsidiaries, working visas for employees from Japan and contract reviews.

Prior to joining Porter Wright, Hikaru was associated with Komatsu Koma Nishikawa and Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu in Tokyo, Japan, and counseled clients with respect to mergers and acquisitions and antitrust laws.
