Grant practices in the areas of business, banking, and commercial law. He has considerable experience in the law and regulation of financial institutions. He has represented clients regarding business acquisitions, financial institution mergers and acquisitions, the issuance of public and private securities, equipment leasing, corporate reorganization, bankruptcy and technology matters, including electronic payment systems. He also has represented de novo financial institutions and community banks, as well as large regional and national banking organizations. He frequently writes and speaks on the data security and privacy concerns of financial institutions, including web access and data breach practices. He is regularly consulted on complex financing transactions by both lenders and borrowers, on joint ventures, on complex contract matters, and on regulatory developments affecting financial institutions, including for example, initiatives under the Check 21 Act.
Since 1986, Grant has been the principal outside legal counsel to the Community Banking Association of Ohio, a trade association of community financial organizations based in Ohio. Since 1995, Grant has been primarily responsible for the firm's representation of Oak Hill Financial, Inc., a regional, publicly-traded bank holding company based in southern Ohio that was recently acquired by WesBanco, Inc. a bank holding company based in West Virginia with significant operations in southern Ohio. He also represents a number of other financial service companies, including finance companies, banks, thrifts and credit unions.
