Grateful Today

Giving back and paying it forward are simple beliefs at the core of our culture at Porter Wright.

Our attorneys and staff live, work, and volunteer in Southwest Florida, and it’s important to us to give back to our community. For 2020, the attorneys in our Naples office decided not to hold our traditional client reception. Instead, we plan to invest in our community by making a contribution to Champions for Learning, The Education Foundation of Collier County, benefitting the Immokalee High School Mock Trial Team.

Immokalee High School, home to around 1,700 students, takes part in an annual state-wide mock trial program sponsored by the Collier County Bar Association. Porter Wright attorneys have been involved as attorney coaches for the students for several years.

“We work with the students to train them as attorneys or witnesses for the trial competition,” said Ted Walters, partner in charge of the Naples office of Porter Wright. “It’s a great time interacting with the students. But our true mission is to encourage critical thinking and potentially inspire the students to consider a career in law. We hope to motivate this next generation, and mock trial is one small way that we can contribute.”

The funds donated to Champions for Learning will be used for team transportation, meals, entrance fees, and other needs of the students relating to participation in mock trial.

“Our partners unanimously decided to direct our contribution to the trial team because we believe these students deserve our support,” said Walters. “We look forward to continuing our work with these students on the mock trial team and hope we inspire others to lend a hand as well.”
