As an experienced tax attorney, Gary advises clients on all aspects of tax planning related to their business concerns. Gary has experience with clients across all industries, from private equity to multinational corporations, advising corporations, partnerships and their owners regarding tax-efficient strategies with respect to formation, operation, acquisition and disposition of businesses. His tax work also extends to advising clients as to corporate, partnership and individual tax issues at both the federal and state levels.
Gary assists with drafting and negotiating legal agreements to properly reflect his client’s interests and protect them from unexpected tax exposures. He has authored memoranda and tax opinions for a number of complex corporate and partnership transactions, including tax-free spin-offs.
Gary works closely with many of firm’s transactional practices to address state and federal tax issues related to mergers and acquisitions, securities, real estate and employee benefits. Additionally, Gary represents taxpayers regarding state and local tax issues, including sales and use tax, income taxes, nonresident taxation and property taxes.
Prior to joining Porter Wright, Gary advised clients in the mergers and acquisitions space from a tax perspective at a global consulting firm in Chicago.
