Describe a pivotal moment that influenced your career path.
My favorite 7th grade science teacher nominated me to attend the Inaugural Shirley Chisholm Conference for Girls in Government. She knew I had an interest in law and the conference consisted of a variety of activities, such as panels with women lawyers, judges and politicians. The conference showed me that there are successful women, who look like me, in the legal profession.
Name an attorney you admire and tell us why.
I’m extremely thankful for all of my attorney mentors and I admire all of them for different reasons. Since I can only select one, I’ll say former First Lady Michelle Obama. I admire her family values, her commitment to enriching and empowering people from underserved communities, her grace, her style, and the list goes on!
How has your previous experience helped you in your current role at Porter Wright?
I was fortunate in the sense that I was able to obtain several internships in the legal industry throughout my undergraduate and law school studies. However, my first job in the hospitality industry taught me the most about customer service. From working as a restaurant hostess and waitress to working in legal clinics, learning about customer service early on has helped me tremendously over the years.
Tell us about a charity, philanthropic activity you have been involved with and why?
I’ve volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club of Central Ohio and South Bend, Indiana to provide summer activity planning services for their summer and after-school programs. I enjoy discussing college planning and financial literacy with students. Moreover, I always leave learning something new from them.
Tell us about your favorite thing to do outside of work.
During the spring and summertime, I enjoy gardening and visiting nurseries. During the fall and winter, I enjoy crafting. If there is a “how-to” video on social media, I will most likely try to make it. I’ve painted canvases, created holiday wreaths, and designed floral arrangements.
