What part of your legal practice are you most passionate about?
I truly enjoy working on economic development projects. I find it rewarding to be a part of a team that works together creatively to solve problems that benefit the community we work and live in.
What is the best advice you’ve received about how to be a successful attorney?
It’s so important and valuable, especially as a woman in law, to find a mentor (or two) who you are comfortable with to ask for advice.
Have you drawn professional inspiration from other women? Tell us about someone who has inspired you.
I’ve had several female attorneys as mentors, all of whom have shared with me their time and advice, and all without seeking credit, accolades or compensation. Starting out as a secretary in a small law firm, I was fortunate to work very closely with two female attorneys. They both taught me legal analysis and how to give practical advice, and served as role models in leadership in their respective practices. Those two female attorneys helped me to build an excellent foundation for learning the art of getting the deal done.
What are the top three pieces of advice you would give to an aspiring female lawyer?
(1) be confident, (2) don’t apologize for asking questions or for having an opinion, and (3) take care of yourself with the same strength and determination that you take care of your clients.
