Terrance Miller presents testimony to Ohio Senate committee
Attorney Terrance Miller presented testimony on behalf of the Ohio State Bar Association to the Senate Government Oversight and Reform Committee regarding SB 344. In his Dec. 3 testimony, Miller said the association "commends the legislature on its effort to enhance transparency and accountability in how the state conducts business in securing legal counsel." However, Miller said, "the Ohio State Bar Association cannot support the proposed regulation of contingency fees as set forth in the bill." After stating examples supporting the association’s stand on the issue, Miller said, "… we oppose this provision and respectfully request it be removed." SB 344 and its companion bill in the House, HB 238, seek to provide greater transparency to contingency fee counsel arrangements, and also seek to limit through a tiered arrangement the contingency fees awarded to outside attorneys.
