Porter Wright women attorneys receive top placement in Ohio Super Lawyers® 2012 listings

Porter Wright attorneys Kathleen Brinkman, Marilyn Maag, Carolyn Taggart and Kathleen Trafford are among the Top 50 Women in Ohio and the Top 25 Women in their respective metropolitan areas in Ohio Super Lawyers' 2012 top listings.

Super Lawyers’ Top 50 Women and Top 25 Women lists include attorneys who received the highest point totals in the 2012 Ohio Super Lawyers nomination, research, and review process. Super Lawyers comprise the top five percent of lawyers in each state based on verdicts and settlements, transactions, representative clients, experience, honors and awards, special licenses and certifications, position within law firm, bar and other professional activity, pro bono and community service, scholarly lectures and writings, education and employment background, and other outstanding achievements.

Kathleen Brinkman is recognized in the area of Criminal Defense: White Collar and is honored in the Top 50 Women in Ohio and Top 25 Women in Cincinnati listings. Of Counsel in the Firm's Cincinnati office, she represents corporations and individuals who face investigation or charges by federal or state authorities, or whose property the government seeks to forfeit. Brinkman recently defended clients in immigration, environmental and fraud criminal investigations. For 24 years, she was as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio where her prosecution specialties included complex white-collar and other major economic crimes, public corruption, and environmental crimes. Brinkman also investigated and prosecuted health care fraud matters, including False Claims Act cases. She is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has been honored with the Cincinnati Bar Association's John P. Kiely Award for Professionalism and the Ohio State Bar Association's Nettie Cronise Lutes Award which recognizes both a high level of professionalism and contributions to the  advancement of women in the profession.

Marilyn Maag, a Partner in Porter Wright’s Cincinnati office, is recognized in the area of Estate Planning and Probate law and is honored in the Top 100 in Ohio, Top 50 Women in Ohio, Top 50 in Cincinnati and Top 25 Women in Cincinnati listings. She works with individuals and families on estate planning, trust and probate law issues. Her practice includes charitable planning, elder law and estate planning for family business owners. Maag is an Ohio State Bar Association Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law and has been named a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. She received both her bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of Cincinnati.

Carolyn Taggart is recognized in the area of Civil Litigation Defense and is honored in the Top 50 Women in Ohio, Top 50 in Cincinnati and Top 25 Women in Cincinnati listings. As a Partner in the Firm's Cincinnati office and with more than 30 years of trial experience, Taggart defends product liability, legal malpractice and nursing home liability claims, and litigates complex commercial cases. She has extensive jury and bench trial and appellate experience in both state and federal courts. Taggart is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, received the Ohio State Bar Association’s Eugene R. Weir Award for Ethics and Professionalism in 2007, and is recognized as Best Lawyers’ 2012 Cincinnati Product Liability Litigation – Defendants Lawyer of the Year. In addition, she participates in the Lawyer to Lawyer Mentoring Program, volunteers as a mediator in federal court and serves on the Board of Visitors for the University of Cincinnati College of Law.

Kathleen Trafford, a Partner in Porter Wright’s Litigation Department in Columbus, is recognized in the area of General Litigation where she concentrates her practice in the area of governmental and regulatory litigation and constitutional law. She is honored in the Top 100 in Ohio, Top 50 Women in Ohio, Top 50 in Columbus and Top 25 Women in Columbus listings. Trafford represents private parties in disputes with governmental agencies and also serves as special counsel to a number of state and local governmental agencies. She also handles cases involving constitutional challenges to state and local laws and orders, First Amendment claims, rate making and price discrimination, licensing disputes, trademarks, professional ethics, public records, injunctions and special writs in the Ohio Supreme Court. Trafford serves as an arbitrator for complex litigation matters and is past President of the Columbus Bar Association and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. She has also been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® in the area of commercial litigation and by Chambers USA in the area of general commercial litigation. Before joining Porter Wright in 1988, Trafford was Deputy Chief Counsel to the Ohio Attorney General where she had primary responsibility for defending the constitutionality of state statutes and for representing state officials and agencies in complex litigation.
