Porter Wright Attorneys Selected as Part of The International Who's Who of Product Liability Defence Lawyers 2011 by Who's Who Legal

Porter Wright is pleased to announce attorneys James Oliphant and Joseph Ryan, both partners in the Firm’s Litigation Practice Group, have been selected as members of The International Who's Who of Product Liability Defence Lawyers 2011. Mr. Oliphant and Mr. Ryan are the only lawyers in Central Ohio to be included in the product liability area by the selection committee. They were selected by a research process including discussions and interviews with well known practitioners in the field, as well as with General Counsel. The international selection process narrows the field ranging from 200 to 600 lawyers who “are considered the pre-eminent lawyers in the field.”

For over a decade, Who’s Who Legal (published by Law Business Research Ltd.) has identified the leading practitioners in areas of business law. Selection for the honor is based on a research process and prohibits inclusion based on purchase.
“We’re proud of the work our attorneys do with our clients on a day-to-day basis and are honored by the recognition their dedication brings,” said Robert W. “Buzz” Trafford, the Firm’s Managing Partner.
Mr. Ryan focuses in the area of product liability, intellectual property, class actions, and commercial law. The National Law Journal singled out his defense of a Cleveland psychologist as the “Most Impressive Civil Defense Verdict in the United States in 2002.” A member of the International Association of Defense Counsel since 1989, Mr. Ryan has held numerous positions, including President of the Board of Directors of the IADC — a distinguished appointment from the Association, which is comprised of over 2,400 members internationally.

With nearly 40 years of experience at both the trial and appellate levels in both state and federal courts, Mr. Oliphant’s practice covers a broad range of cases from complex business disputes to professional negligence cases. His primarily focus areas are product liability, medical defense, and commercial litigation. He has extensive jury trial experience and has tried over 125 cases to verdict. Mr. Oliphant has served as an adjunct professor of trial practice at The Ohio State University College of Law, and he has lectured extensively in many fields of civil litigation.
