Partner Melanie Martin-Jones quoted in Columbus Dispatch article about international publishing

Melanie Martin-Jones, a Partner in Porter Wright's International Practice Area, was quoted in The Columbus Dispatch article, "'Highlights' learning foreign languages," regarding the Columbus, Ohio, children's publisher's recent leap into the Chinese market.

The Columbus Dispatch, Tim Feran reporting:
"
Part of Highlights' caution in moving into China involved being 'pretty savvy' in keeping control of trademarks, said Melanie Martin-Jones, partner in the intellectual property department of the law firm Porter Wright Morris & Arthur.

"Because China 'doesn't have what we know as common law, if you're shipping any goods there, and there's already a trademark registration (of an American company's product), they can seize your goods, and you can't sell them in the country,' Martin-Jones said.

"'Highlights knew in advance these problems. They were very well-positioned.'"
