Carlin focuses her practice in real estate and banking and finance, concentrating primarily on commercial leasing and real estate-related purchase and sale transactions. Carlin has represented clients in highly specialized areas such as real estate development and health care. She has provided counsel regarding the sale, due diligence and development of commercial real estate, as well as drafting and negotiating commercial lease agreements and related loan documents for such clients.
Carlin advises alcohol retail permit holders in obtaining new permits and transferring existing permits. She further assists in matters pertaining to the set-up and establishment, as well as the regulatory requirements, for the opening of bars and restaurants. Here she assists clients in obtaining alcohol retail permits and food licenses in compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations.
Prior to joining Porter Wright, Carlin served as a legal intern in the U.S. House of Representatives. As a student attorney for a national civil rights non-profit coalition on behalf of the Georgetown University Law Center Federal Legislation Clinic, she advocated at the local, state and federal levels. Additionally, on behalf of a children’s advocacy organization, she authored comments to the Federal Communications Commission, promoting creative technology-based solutions that would extend student access to the internet in rural and needs-based communities.
