Six Porter Wright Partners — Marilyn J. Maag, Christopher C. Russell, Bradd N. Siegel, Carolyn A. Taggart, Kathleen M. Trafford, and Robert W. (Buzz) Trafford — are among the top 50 attorneys in their respective cities, according to Ohio Super Lawyers® 2010.
Super Lawyers' Top 50 lists include attorneys who received the highest point totals in the 2010 Ohio Super Lawyers nomination, research, and review process. Super Lawyers comprise the top five percent of lawyers in each state based on verdicts and settlements, transactions, representative clients, experience, honors and awards, special licenses and certifications, position within law firm, bar and other professional activity, pro bono and community service, scholarly lectures and writings, education and employment background, and other outstanding achievements.
Ms. Maag was recognized in the area of Estate Planning and Probate law in Cincinnati. She works with individuals and families on estate planning, trust and probate law issues. Her practice includes charitable planning, elder law, and estate planning for family business owners. She is an Ohio State Bar Association Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law and has been named a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. She received both her bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Cincinnati.
Mr. Russell was recognized in the area of Employment and Labor law in Columbus. He practices in the fields of workers' compensation and labor and employment, representing various companies before state and federal courts and administrative agencies. He has been certified as one of the state of Ohio's first specialists in the field of Workers' Compensation by the Ohio State Bar Association. A substantial portion of Mr. Russell's practice also involves labor arbitrations, employment litigation, and workplace safety issues. Mr. Russell has also been recognized as one of The Best Lawyers in America® in the area of employment law.
Mr. Siegel, who has more than 30 years of experience in labor and employment law litigation on behalf of companies and their managers in state and federal courts, was recognized in the area of Employment Litigation Defense in Columbus. He has successfully defended management clients against claims brought under state and federal employment discrimination statutes, ERISA, Section 301 of the LMRA, and state wrongful discharge law. Mr. Siegel was elected a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers in 1999, has been named for more than 20 years to The Best Lawyers in America® in the area of employment law, and has been recognized by Chambers USA as a leading employment law attorney. Additionally, he taught Employment Law and Employment Discrimination Law as an adjunct professor at Capital University Law School. Mr. Siegel is a Fellow of both the Ohio State Bar Foundation and the Columbus Bar Foundation.
Ms. Taggart was recognized in the area of Civil Litigation Defense in Cincinnati. With more than 30 years of trial experience, Ms. Taggart defends product liability, legal malpractice, and nursing home liability claims and litigates complex commercial cases. She has extensive jury and bench trial and appellate experience in both state and federal courts. Ms. Taggart is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, received the Ohio State Bar Association's Eugene R. Weir Award for Ethics and Professionalism in 2007, and has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® in the area of product liability litigation. In addition, she participates in the Lawyer to Lawyer Mentoring Program, volunteers as a mediator in federal court, and serves on the Youth Committee for the Cincinnati Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Board of Directors of the Diocesan Catholic Children's Home, and the Board of Visitors for the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
Ms. Trafford, a partner in Porter Wright's Litigation Department in Columbus, was recognized in the area of General Litigation where she concentrates her practice in the area of governmental and regulatory litigation and constitutional law. She represents private parties in disputes with governmental agencies and also serves as special counsel to a number of state and local governmental agencies. She also handles cases involving constitutional challenges to state and local laws and orders, First Amendment claims, rate making and price discrimination, licensing disputes, trademarks, professional ethics, public records, injunctions and special writs in the Ohio Supreme Court. Ms. Trafford serves as an arbitrator for complex litigation matters and is past President of the Columbus Bar Association and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. She has also been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® in the area of commercial litigation and by Chambers USA in the area of general commercial litigation. Before joining Porter Wright in 1988, Ms. Trafford was Deputy Chief Counsel to the Ohio Attorney General where she had primary responsibility for defending the constitutionality of state statutes and for representing state officials and agencies in complex litigation.
Mr. Trafford, Porter Wright's Managing Partner, was recognized in the area of Business Litigation. He has practiced law in Columbus for more than 30 years and concentrates his practice in the area of complex litigation, including securities, attorney and accountant malpractice, RICO, lender liability, takeovers, trade secrets, officer and director liability, constitutional law, and other complex business litigation issues. He combines this active practice with his responsibilities as Managing Partner and with myriad community involvement endeavors, including recent service as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Trafford is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has been recognized by Chambers USA in the area of general commercial litigation.
