Les Glick discusses impact of Foreign Corrupt Practices Act

Les Glick, partner in Porter Wright’s Washington, D.C. office, spoke June 23 at a business meeting in Costa Rica at the invitation of the American Chamber of Commerce of Costa Rica. Glick covered the topic of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and its impact on U.S. companies with agents and distributors in Costa Rica. Glick discussed his experience in conducting FCPA audits of a major U.S. defense contractor’s representatives Mexico and Colombia, and recent cases levying multimillion dollar fines on U.S. companies that failed to police corrupt practices of their overseas representatives. The meeting was attended by in-house counsel of multinational firms doing business in Costa Rica, such as Intel and Herbalife, as well as attorneys from Costa Rica’s most prominent law firms.
