1960-1996 Ascent to National Stature

The firm’s first expansion beyond Columbus, Ohio, occurred in 1979 when William G. Porter, Jr., brother of Samuel H. Porter, went to Washington, D.C., to open a one-lawyer office to provide the firm with a presence in our nation’s capital. From these modest beginnings, the Washington office of Porter Wright has expanded into a thriving national practice in the area of insurance, securities, government contracts, and commercial litigation. Porter Wright attorneys have developed a strong international law expertise helping clients to establish facilities outside this country, resolve business issues abroad, and handle international litigation and customs and trade issues.

Today, a talented group of attorneys handle regulatory issues with virtually every federal agency, litigate in all federal and state courts in the Washington area and help resolve client issues before Congress, including testimony before legislative committees and providing input in the legislative process.

Porter Wright established its Cincinnati presence in 1982, and immediately enhanced it through a merger with Hartsock, Harris & Schneider in 1983. The Cincinnati office enabled Porter Wright to offer a full range of services to Cincinnati clients. Eight years later, the firm of Reichert, Strauss & Reed was added, further strengthening the level of service and expertise. In recent years, the Cincinnati office has expanded its practice with attorneys who practice in both Kentucky and Ohio. Today, the firm is well-positioned to service its clients’ needs throughout the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky region.
