Samuel H. Porter
One of the city’s biggest challenges during the 1970s involved the desegregation of the Columbus Public Schools. Porter, Stanley, Platt & Arthur was a focus of attention as a result of Sam Porter’s defense of the Columbus Board of Education. This case took place during a period when many of the nation’s cities were experiencing similar fights. In Columbus, the outcome of the case not only was a peaceful one, but it set a precedent throughout the nation on how a desegregation program can be achieved successfully.
During that time, both firms took a leadership position in hiring minorities and women. Today, Porter Wright continues its pursuit of a diversified firm environment and concentrates much of its recruiting efforts accordingly.
